At the annual fair of a rural temple, the villagers brought together food and snacks to make merit. Steamed jasmine rice emitting the scent from the rice bowl, talking to the other food laid out on the table, “Do you know we come from the same place? I’ll tell you about our past.” When the rain comes down during the beginning of the rainy season, it transforms the dry land into damp land. The farmers began to plow to soften the soil. Then sow the paddy into the field. The farmers saw rice growing gradually until it turned to a golden ear. After that, the farmers harvest the fully ripe rice. Some rice falls onto the field, and the sparrows peck them. The farmers helped each other to select some perfect rice kernels. And they keep them for the following year. The rice is sent to the mill to shred the husks away. The lost husk is called “rice husk.” The husk is used as fuel, food for animals, and nutrients for the soil. People cook rice or process them into various foods. Some make them into rice flour to make noodles, vermicelli noodles, etc.
