ท่ามกลางอากาศแสนอบอุ่นมีจิ้งจกน้อยที่เพิ่งฟักตัวออกมาจากไข่ใบเล็ก สีขาว ลำตัวของมันค่อนข้างแบน มีหัวสั้น ผิวสีน้ำตาลอ่อน มีสี่ขา และมันก็มีหางด้วยนะ มันอาศัยอยู่กับพี่ชายในบ้านหลังใหญ่ พี่ชายสอนวิธีเอาตัวรอดจากเจ้าเหมียวที่อยู่ในบ้านหลังเดียวกัน และยังแนะนำวิธีหาอาหารให้อีกด้วย สองพี่น้องวิ่งเล่นไล่จับกันอย่างสนุกสนาน จนกระทั่งวันหนึ่งขณะที่สายฝนโปรยปรายลงมาจิ้งจกน้อยก็ไปแอบเกาะอยู่ข้าง ๆ หน้าต่าง คนในบ้านรีบวิ่งไปปิดหน้าต่างเพื่อกันไม่ให้ฝนสาดเข้าบ้าน ทันใดนั้นเองหางของมันก็ถูกบานหน้าต่างหนีบจนขาดกระเด็น มันวิ่งลงมาดูหางที่หลุดออกไปด้วยความตกใจ น่าแปลกที่หางของมันยังคงกระดิกอยู่ แต่ไม่นานก็นิ่งไป มันลำพึงอย่างเศร้าใจ “ฉันกลายเป็นจิ้งจกหางด้วนเสียแล้ว” และหลบตัวในซอกมืด ๆ เพราะอายที่ตนไม่มีหางเหมือนจิ้งจกตัวอื่น ๆ พี่ชายส่งเสียงเรียกให้จิ้งจกน้อยออกมาเล่นด้วยกันและปลอบใจ จนกระทั่งจิ้งจกน้อยคิดได้และยอมออกมาเล่นกับพี่ชาย เวลาผ่านไปจิ้งจกน้อยสังเกตว่าหางของเขาค่อย ๆ งอกออกมาทีละเล็กทีละน้อย มันดีใจมากและใช้ชีวิตอยู่ในบ้านหลังใหญ่อย่างมีความสุข  

A tiny lizard had just hatched from a small white egg in warm weather. Its body was flat, with a short head, light brown skin, four legs, and a tail. He lived with his brother in a big house. The brother teaches him to survive from a cat who lives in the same place. And he also advises him on how to find food. The two siblings ran and chased each other happily. One day, when it started to rain, the little lizard sneaked around next to the window. The house’s occupants hastily close the window to prevent the rain from splashing into the house. Suddenly, its tail was torn apart by the windowpane. It ran down and watched the tail fall out in shock. Surprisingly, its tail was still wiggling. But soon, he remained silent. It was sad. “I have become an amputated tail lizard,” He hid in the dark corners, embarrassed by the fact that he had no tail like other lizards. His brother called out for the little lizard to play together and consoled him till the little lizard thought and agreed to play with his brother. The little lizard noticed that his tail was growing little by little as time passed. He was delighted and lived happily in that big house.
